Hello,
I am a DNA Profiling analyst in the UK, with many years experience in current methods of profiling. I grew up in Africa and would like to return in the future and hopefully pass down any expertise I have picked up.
There is not a lot of information about careers in companies or the government and I was hoping you could help me out in this area? Additionally, lecturing/teaching opportunities would be informative.
Many thanks,
Martin

My daughter is currently in grade 11 at muizenberg high school, cape town and she is interested in Forensic Pathology and would like to have the opportunity to job shadow in this field.
If there is anyone who can recommend where or whom she could contact regarding this please contact me on the emial address provided
Is there any bursaries available for this field?
Dear Tracy
Forensic Pathology falls under the Dept of Health and not the SAPS, which handles DNA profiling at its Forensic Biology Labs.
UCT offer this course as a post graduate medical degree. I suggest you contact Prof Lorna Martin for further information. Her email address is Lornaj.Martin@uct.ac.za
Good Luck!
Best regards
Vanessa

The University of Free State is currently offering this course as an Honours Degree, and UCT hope to begin offering the Honours course in 2011. I suggest you contact either Prof Spies at UFS – SpiesJJ@ufs.ac.za or Prof. Ramesar at UCT – Raj.Ramesar@uct.ac.za for further information.
Hi there Michelle!
I studied Forensic Biology overseas in England. I have now returned however, it is very difficult to find jobs in the forensic field in South Africa. I am hoping that I will find work here as a Forensic Biologist, however my dream is to teach a Forensic Biology/Science course at a University in South Africa because I know there are many people out there who just like me, want to make South Africa a better place. Studying overseas need not mean that the student abandons their own country. Many people like me would love the opportunity to come back to South Africa to work.
Hi there,
My domestic worker has a really intelligent sister who is matriculating and wants to become a forensic pathologist- what study route does anyone suggest?
Bursaries at all?
Much thanks
Cherylin
Please email Dr Carolyn Hancock on cehancock@dnaproject.co.za and she will respond to your queries relating to a Forensic Career.
Hello
I am a medical technologist in forensic histopathology and over the past few years since schools started their “job shadowing” programm for Grade 11 learners, I have had a number of learners who are very interested in doing Forensic Science, more so than Forensic Pathology (pathologist).
I feel awful when I tell them there is no specific course for forensic sciences and it will be a terrible loss to South Africa if we were loose these inspiring learners if they were to study overseas.
Yours sincerely
Michelle Perrins
