SOLVING IT’ 3rd SERIES :STARTING WEDNESDAY 31 OCTOBER 2007 : SABC 3 : 21:30

The 3rd “Solving It’ television series will begin on SABC 3 @ 21h30, as of today, 31 October 2007. In part One of the Series, the story focuses on evidence collected at the Crime Scène of the Leigh Matthews case. This episode highlights the importance of proper collection of evidence as well as crime scene containment, both of which are criticalaspects of the DNA Project’s objectives.

The kidnap and murder of Leigh Mathews gripped the hearts and imaginations of South Africans. At the centre of this saga were two equally fascinating personalities :

The perpetrator and the man who finally apprehended him.

Leigh Matthews was kidnapped on the 9th of July 2004 – one day before her 21st birthday party. 12 days later her body was found in the veld, just off the N1 highway near Walkerville, on Wednesday 21 July 2004. Donavan Moodley was arrested for the murder on the 4th of October 2004. The murder of Leigh Mathews was gripping for so many reasons………………..The endless wait for the drama between the police, the family and the perpetrator to play out. It’s ultimately tragic ending.

The MYSTERIOUS FORENSIC clues and evidence, and the personality of the man who ultimately destroyed a life.

Who is Donavan Moodley? And why did he commit this terrible Act? To get any closer to answering these questions, one has to understand the profile of a kidnapper.

These questions will be applied to a very complex character. It would however be presumptuous to ever believe one fully understands the motive behind the crime especially in the context of the strange letters found addressed to his parents and girl friends, to his seemingly callous and detached behaviour in the days following the murder.
